Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station Announces Plans to Build an Enclosed Walkway Connector to Newly Expanded Convention Center
The Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station, located in downtown Indianapolis, announced plans today to build an enclosed walkway connecting the hotel to the newly expanded Indiana Convention Center.
The new partially glass-sided 97-foot long walkway will connect the hotel at its second level above Capitol Avenue to the convention center’s second-floor level. The project also includes adding patio space above Capitol Avenue that the hotel will utilize for outdoor functions and events such as tailgate parties. The $400,000 project is scheduled to begin in November and be completed by January 2011.
“The enclosed walkway provides hotel guests the convenience of covered and climate controlled access to the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium,” said Jim Dora, Jr., president and chief executive officer, General Hotels Corporation. “The hotel’s proximity to the convention center is already ideal and we couldn’t be more excited about this project and what it means to our hotel guests.”
Located at 123 West Louisiana Street, Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station offers 273 guest rooms and over 55,000 square feet of function space, most notably the Grand Hall in Union Station. The hotel is popular for its 26 authentic Pullman train cars resting on their original tracks and decorated after period personalities. Indianapolis based General Hotels Corporation operates the hotel.
